Soleirolia, design smeraldo dal sapore shabby chic

Ammetto il mio amore per le piante retrò, vintage, o meglio le piante tipiche dei giardini delle nostre nonne, pertanto ho deciso di parlarvi di volta in volta di quelle specie che costituiscono il giardino shabby chic, fintamente decadente, romantico e fresco, ovvero il mio giardino ideale. 

In particolare oggi vi parlerò della Soleiroila, graziosa piantina erbacea molto decorativa. 
La prima volta che la notai da arredatrice e non da botanica, fu quando una sera del 2010, in un negozio di allestimenti e arredo interni in stile shabby, la vidi su un tavolo di legno decapato, accanto a pizzi e merletti e lanterne di legno bianco, fu subito amore! Decisi che sarebbe stata presente al mio matrimonio sul tavolo dedicato alla confettata insieme ad altre piantine shabby di cui vi parlerò nei prossimi articoli.

Parliamo di lei, Il nome comune di questa pianta è Soleirolia o Helxine appartiene al genere Helxine della famiglia delle Urticaceae e comprende una sola specie la Helxine soleirolii o Soleirolia soleirolii, originaria della Corsica e della Sardegna. Si tratta di una piantina vivace sempreverde e dall'aspetto fresco, possiede foglioline molto piccole e rotonde. Questo suo aspetto, fa si che si sposi bene con vasi dai colori in contrasto dalle tonalità polverose, come il bianco, grigio e tortora, tipicamente shabby chic. 

Grazie al suo portamento strisciante conferisce al giardino o all'angolo verde in cui si trova, una grazia fintamente scomposta di grande effetto scenico. 

I fusti sottili e carnosi sono molto fragili. Quando è rigogliosa crea una deliziosa palla verde con tanti getti delicati e ricadenti sul vaso. Durante la primavere e l'estate produce piccoli fiorellini quasi invisibili di colore bianco, privi di interesse decorativo. Si presta come piantina da vaso, pianta tappezzante, come pianta da appartamento, o in basket appesi.

Ama gli ambienti poco luminosi e la terra sempre umida, necessita di essere bagnata spesso e non facendo mai asciugare il suolo completamente. In inverno la temperatura minima deve essere di 7°C, in estate la massima di 21°C. Evitare le esposizioni dirette al sole. Come substrato scegliere un buon terriccio costituito da terreno fertile e torba mescolato ad un po' di sabbia. Vista la loro versatilità, è possibile inserire la Soleiroila anche in contesti di carattere moderno, utilizzando vasi essenziali e colorati.
