Consiglio del mese, i tagetes

Garden Things

In this period the tagetes flower, carnations or marigold or Indians.
Thanks to their strong smell, can keep away other pests out of our garden plants, such as tomatoes, potatoes and leeks, helping with their bright colors to cheer up the green. At the same time the roots of marigold release of substances in the soil that "sweep away" from soil nematodes, worms, harmful to plants.
It blooms from March to September.
sowing generally runs from March to April, covering the seeds with a little earth. Do not have special requirements of soil, but like a lot of sun. The plants are then thinned every 15 cm.
Enjoy the splashes of color!

La Nigella, una pianta antica

Garden Things

 “Guarisce tutto, fuorché la morte”

                                             Maometto

In India è ancora apprezzata in cucina e in medicina, mentre in Europa venne utilizzata fino al XVII secolo e in seguito abbandonata.

Garden Things

The Nigella is a delightful plant that gives spontaneity and naturalness to the garden. You can find wild in fallow fields in the Mediterranean area, the species Nigella damascena L. var. minor Boiss, slender, deep blue and with a single layer of 5 petals. While Nigella sativa L., is an ancient plant, already mentioned in the Bible under the name of "black wheat" (Habbe sauda, in Arabic), known already at the time of the ancient Romans and Egyptians, is also included in traditional medicine Koranic .
In India it is still appreciated in cooking and medicine, while in Europe it was used until the seventeenth century and later abandoned.

Among the medicinal properties of Nigella remember those emmenagogue, tonic, narcotic and aphrodisiac and anti-inflammatory to relieve those headaches and toothaches. All these properties are traced all'alcaloide toxic Damascenina.
Currently the seeds possess different uses, are used to decorate natural soaps, are placed in the laundry to take away moths and insects, for their delicate aroma and spicy, have been used in the past to flavor buns, ice cream, liqueurs etc., and especially for make the oil, gastronomy tradition still present in the Middle East and India.
Having a certain level of toxicity, its best use is that of ornamental species, with its double flowers from ethereal colors ranging from white to blue in different shades, to the lilac, while its special capsules are used to create compositions of dried flowers.

In some areas of southern Italy, is grown Nigella sativa, also known as black cumin or cuminella, with smaller leaves, hairy and lacinias wider, does not have the decorative bracts involucrali it the seeds of the angular N.damascena. There is also in the nature of Nigella arvensis, Nigella or the Wild, which blooms in the summer, but looking inconspicuous.
After withering, it is possible to dry the capsules to create decorative bouquets of dried flowers.

Avocado, un frutto, un vegetale, un grasso

Buongiorno!

      --------

      Good Morning!
Today it is called the avocado ...
In recent years I have enjoyed this fruit.
At first I could not understand the taste, by the time I learned that it is a very versatile fruit that can be used in the kitchen for sweet and savory dishes very tasty and healthy. Rich in fatty acids such as linoleic acid and Omega 3, able to fight the "bad" cholesterol, vitamin A, vitamin E, and antioxidants such as lutein and glutathione, looks like a vegetable rich in valuable nutrients beneficial.
Of course, a salad and another was starting to have some seed from, and since I tend to sow whatever seminabile, I decided to experiment with cultivation. The best known method is the one that is nell'infilzare with toothpicks on 4 sides of the seed and place it in a glass of water by dipping only the lower part of the seed and wait ...
After a long wait with no result, I decided to do things differently, I took the cool suit, I washed and left to dry for a couple of days, then I filled a vase with a simple universal soil and there I put the seed with pressure up to half, I watered and waited. after about a month, here's the surprise ... a small miracle ... I could not believe my eyes, a small avocado seedling was growing in my garden ...

Its Latin name is Persea americana Mill., Is a tree-like plant that belongs to the family Lauraceae. Originally from Mexico and Guatemala, was already in use by the Aztecs and the Maya.

It can reach 20 feet tall and 200 years old. It is an evergreen tree. The flowers are small and inconspicuous, gathered in clusters, are formed by 3 petals and 3 sepals. When fertilized, the female flowers give rise to a drupe fruit, called the avocado, the color is green or purple, skin rough or smooth, inside has a single large seed-shaped drop and a yellowish flesh, rich in fat . Regarding the care of the plant, has no requirement in terms of soil, but fears the saline soils and limestone, is well suited to all exposures but prefers direct exposure to the sun. The soil should always be moist and the temperature should not drop below 10 ° C.
Try it for yourself to cultivate this plant can also be a beautiful and precious gift :)
I leave you with the recipe for Guacamole, avocado sauce served with nachos and much more ...

      GUACAMOLE
      2 Avocados2 Peppers Chiles serranos 2 ripe tomatoes 3 stalks of coriander or prezzemolo1 / 2 Lime or lemon succo1 / 2 clove Onion piccola1 Aglioq.b. salt

Reduce everything to pieces, add the lime juice or lemon and spend all of the mortar or crescent. The gacamole is ready, serve with nachos, tacos or tostadas, but also as a cream to accompany main dishes or appetizers.

Soleirolia, design smeraldo dal sapore shabby chic

Garden Things

------------

I admit my love for plants retro, vintage, or rather the typical plants of the gardens of our grandmothers, so I decided to talk in each of those species that make up the garden shabby chic, mock decadent, romantic and fresh, which is the My ideal garden.
In particular, today I will talk about the Soleiroila, pretty herbaceous seedling very decorative.
The first time I noticed from the decorator and not a botanist, was when one evening in 2010, in a shop fittings and furniture style interior shabby, I saw her on a wooden table pickled, along with lace and wooden lanterns white, it was love at first sight! I decided that would be present at my wedding on the table dedicated to the pelleted together with other shabby seedlings of which I will talk about in future articles.

Let's talk about you, The common name of this plant is Soleirolia or Helxine Helxine belongs to the genus of the family Urticaceae and includes only one species or the Helxine soleirolii Soleirolia soleirolii, originally from Corsica and Sardinia. It is an evergreen seedling vibrant and fresh-looking, has small leaves very small and round. This aspect, makes that goes well with vases colored in contrast dusty hues, such as white, gray and taupe, typically shabby chic.
Thanks to its creeping habit gives the garden or green corner in which it is located, a mock grace decomposed to great effect.

The thin stems and fleshy are very fragile. When it creates a lovely lush green ball with a lot of delicate jets and falling on the pot. During the spring and summer it produces small white flowers almost invisible, devoid of decorative interest. It lends itself as a seedling pot, ground cover plants, as a houseplant, or hanging basket.

Love the low light and the earth always wet, needs to be bathed frequently and never doing the soil completely dry. In winter the minimum temperature should be 7 ° C, in summer maximum of 21 ° C. Avoid direct exposure to the sun. How to choose a good potting soil substrate consists of fertile soil and peat mixed with a little 'of sand. Due to their versatility, you can enter the Soleiroila even in contexts of modern character, using basic pots and colorful.
Your plants are ready to light up your green spaces and your friends will not be able to notice the grace of this plant that can give freshness and romance at every turn.
